# How do you solve and graph the compound inequalities x+1 > -2 and x+1<6 ?

Apr 29, 2015

$x + 1 > - 2$
$\rightarrow x > - 3$

and

$x + 1 < 6$
$\rightarrow x < 5$

You could graph this on a number line as all the points between $\left(- 3\right)$ and $\left(+ 5\right)$ (excluding the end points).
or
on the Cartesian plane
as the area between the vertical lines $x = - 3$ and $x = 5$ (excluding those lines).
