The 10 is the base, and the 5 is what the base and the exponent give.

Explanation:

#10^x = 5#

We must keep it in logarithmic form to evaluate, however.

We can evaluate using the rule #log_an = (logn)/(loga)#

= #(log5)/(log10)#

= 0.70

Alternatively, you could have just calculated log5, because log10 always gives 1.
