# How do you solve the proportion 14/28=9/p?

Apr 29, 2015

we are given:
$\frac{14}{28}$ $=$ $\frac{9}{p}$

Here, p is the unknown

Shifting p to the L.H.S (numerator)
we get:

$\frac{14}{28}$ x p $=$ 9

now, shifting $\frac{14}{28}$ to the R.H.S:

p $=$ 9 x $\frac{28}{14}$

on solving,
p $=$ 18

So our proportion is :
$\frac{14}{28}$ $=$ $\frac{9}{18}$
note: on solving the fractions we get the equal value of 0.5 on both the sides
L.H.S = R.H.S hence they are in proportion.
