# How do you solve the rational equation -8/(5x)+2/(3x)=7/15?

Mar 22, 2016

multiply BOTH sides of the equation by the lowest common denominator for all 3 fractions. The LCD is 15x

after multiplying both sides by 15x, you will obtain:
$- 8 \left(3\right) + 2 \left(5\right) = 7 x$

or
$- 24 + 10 = 7 x$
which is a nice simple linear equation with NO fractions!
