Just add the eqns. to get,

$6 x + 2 y - 6 x + 2 y = - 6 + 6$ $6x+2y-6x+2y=-6+6$

$\Rightarrow 4 y = 0 \Rightarrow y = 0$ $rArr 4y=0 rArr y=0$

Putting $y = 0$ $y=0$ in the first eqn., we have, $6 x = - 6 \Rightarrow x = - 1$ $6x=-6 rArr x=-1$

Notice that adding the eqns. was, in fact, elimination of $x$ $x$ .
