# How do you solve the system using the elimination method for y = (2/5)x– 7, y = (2/5)x + 4?

Jul 5, 2015

No solutions.

#### Explanation:

It is easier to solve this system observing that your equations represent, basically, 2 parallel lines; the first one passing through $y = - 7$ and the second through $y = 4$ but with the sane slope $m = \frac{2}{5}$!
Using elimination you would get:
{y=2/5x-7
{y=2/5x+4 multiply the first one by $- 1$:

{-y=-2/5x+7
{y=2/5x+4 add:

$0 = 0 + 11$ that is not true and also you lost your variables!
