Always get the #x#'s to one side and the numbers to the other.

Explanation:

Subtract #14# on both sides:
#x/(-3)+cancel14-cancel14=8-14=-6#

Then multiply both sides by #-3# to get rid of the fraction:
#(cancel(-3)*x)/cancel(-3)=(-3)(-6)->x=18#
