The distributive property says that for any real numbers $a$ , $b$ and $c$ we have:

$a*(b+-c)=ab+-ac$

Here we can use the property to change a more difficult multiplication to two simpler ones:

$14*(1002)=14*(1000+2)=$

$=14*1000+14*2=14000+28=14028$
