# How do you write 3/20 as a decimal?

Mar 30, 2018

#### Answer:

$\frac{3}{20} = \frac{15}{100} = 0.15$

#### Explanation:

Decimals are way of writing fractions which have denominators that are powers of $10$

$0.3 = \frac{3}{10} \text{ "0.38 = 38/100" } 0.384 = \frac{384}{1000}$ etc

Find an equivalent fraction for $\frac{3}{20}$

$\frac{3}{20} \times \frac{5}{5} = \frac{15}{100}$

This can now be written as $0.15$

For other fractions with denominators that are not factors of $10 , 100 , 1000 , e t c$, you divide the numerator by the denominator:

$\frac{2}{7} = 2 \div 7 = 0.2857 \ldots$

$\frac{5}{9} = 5 \div 9 = 05555. . .$
