How do you write 3 3/4 an improper fraction?
An improper fraction has all the whole numbers converted in to quarters (in this question) along with the original fraction. So in three whole numbers there are four quarters in each number making a total of 12 quarters, add the three quarters and you have a total of 15 quarters.
The rule is to multiply the whole number by the denominator ( the number on the bottom of the fraction) and add on the numerator ( the number on top of the fraction) . This answer goes on top of the original denominator.
