# How do you write an equation in standard form for a line passing through (–1, 5) with a slope of 2?

May 9, 2015

Given a point $\left({x}_{1} , {y}_{1}\right) = \left(- 1 , 5\right)$ and a slope of $m = 2$

$y - 5 = 2 \left(x + 1\right)$
$y - 5 = 2 x + 2$
Standard form is $A x + B y = C$
$\left(- 2\right) x + \left(1\right) y = 7$
