# How do you write an equation in standard form for a line which passes through points (1,1) with slope of 1.2?

May 11, 2015

The answer is : $y = 1.2 x - 0.2$

Any linear function has the following form : $y = m x + b$, where $m$ is the slope.

So if $m = 1.2$, you have :

$y = 1.2 x + b$

Since you have the point $\left(x , y\right) = \left(1 , 1\right)$, you can find $b$ by solving the above equation :

$y = 1.2 x + b \implies 1 = 1.2 \cdot 1 + b \implies b = - 0.2$

$y = 1.2 x - 0.2$
