# How does an exponential function differ from a power function?

The essential difference is that an exponential function has its variable in its exponent, but a power function has its variable in its base. For example, $f \left(x\right) = {3}^{x}$ is an exponential function, but $g \left(x\right) = {x}^{3}$ is a power function.

I hope that this was helpful.
