Fungi can be divided into five groups on the bases of the structure of their mycelium and method of plasmogamy namely

  1. Phycomycetes
  2. Ascomycetes
  3. Basidiomycetes
  4. Deuteromycetes

All the classes contain parasites as well as decomposers.Fungal parasites mostly cause skin diseases in humans(As far as I know and I could be wrong) and so are mostly non lethal.But some parasitic fungi such as helminthosporum orizae which cause white rust of wheat are epidemics, destroy acres of fields and cause famines
