Explanation:

If mass remain same and volume comes down its density will be high.enter image source here

Mass is an indirect measure of the amount of matter
Volume is the space that matter occupies

Explanation:

Matter is made of particles, atomic and subatomic. Matter has the properties of mass and volume.

All particles contain some mass which has an effect on space, and time. The more matter or particles the greater the mass. Mass creates a force known as gravity. By measuring the weight or force caused by the mass an indirect measure of the amount of matter in a substance or object can be found.

All particles occupy space. or volume. As a gas a few particles of matter can occupy a large degree of space. liquid particles occupy more space generally as the particles increase in kinetic energy or temperature. ( the freezing of water is an exception to this rule) As Volume varies with other factors than the amount of matter it is not a good indicator of the amount of matter in a substance or object.
