Explanation:

If our Local Group of galaxies is typical, then larger galaxies tend to be of the order of a couple of million light years apart, while smaller satellite galaxies can be as close as #20,000# light years or so.

Galaxies come in various shapes and sizes from a few thousand (#3 xx 10^3#) stars up to #100# trillion stars (#10^14#).

Our Milky Way galaxy probably contains somewhere between #100# billion (#10^11#) and #400# billion (#4 xx 10^11#) stars.
