Suppose,a compound is color(red)(X_aY_b...

Now you have to determine mass fraction...

Suppose the atomic weight of $X$ and $Y$ are respectively ${m}_{1}$ and ${m}_{2}$...
We can determine the total mass of the compound ${X}_{a} {Y}_{b}$ to be $\left\{\left({m}_{1} \times a\right) + \left({m}_{2} \times b\right)\right\}$ unit.

Now you have to determine the mass fraction of the element $X$:-
The mass of the element $X$ in the compound is $\left({m}_{1} \times a\right)$

The mass fraction of the element $X$ in the compound ${X}_{a} {Y}_{b}$ is $\left(\frac{\left({m}_{1} \times a\right)}{\left({m}_{1} \times a\right) + \left({m}_{2} \times b\right)}\right)$

Similarly,for the element $Y$ it is $\left(\frac{\left({m}_{2} \times b\right)}{\left({m}_{1} \times a\right) + \left({m}_{2} \times b\right)}\right)$
