algae in marine ecosystem help in dissolved o2 to marine ecosystem
it can also help in phytoremediation by absorbing some heavy metals present in water.

Algae in the marine ecosystem also produce oxygen to the marine life, since they can undergo photosynthesis. Some of the algae provide shelter for marine life, such as giant kelp in California. It is also a food source for most of the marine organisms and at the bottom of the food chain.
