How is the Hubble Telescope able to see such long distances?

1 Answer

Space is almost empty. So you can see far away objects by naked eye if the object is bright enough..The function of telescope is to collect more light so that we can see faint objects.

Hubble telescope have a mirror which is 2.4 meter in diameter.
So it can see objects thousands of times fainter than our naked eye.
Since it operates in space above earth's atmosphere there is no disturbances like clouds, air currents,.etc.
Distance is not a problem as we can see Andromeda galaxy which is 2.5 million light years way by naked eye.
Telescope have three functions
1 It collect more light
2 It resolves close objects.
3 It magnify objects.
