A disaster kit should contain 1 gal of water and 2000 Cal of food per person per day.

Ideally, the kit should contain enough supplies to last for two weeks. At a minimum, it should have a three-day supply.

An allowance of 1 gal of water should be enough for drinking and sanitation.

An allowance of 2000 Cal should be enough food to provide one well-balanced meal each day.

It should consist of foods that require no refrigeration, preparation, or cooking.
