Measurements of the cosmic background radiation give the cooling time of the universe since the Big Bang and measurements of the expansion rate of the universe can be used to calculate its approximate age by extrapolating backwards in time.

You could find the estimated age of universe on many websites like on wikipedia .
let me twist the question a bit to you .
what is meant by 'how old' ? . does that refer to age of universe in yrs .
so, i would like to just say that you could measure the life span of something like u-n-i-v-e-r-s-e that's because it is quite a bit huge and . also, time goes realtive.
