How to change to scientific notation on scientific calculator?

On a TI-30, use the SCI/ENG function by pressing the 2nd key and then the DRG key. Then in the menu that shows in the display, choose scientific notation, NOT engineering notation.

On a TI-83 or TI-84, press the MODE key. Change the display from Normal to Sci by highlighting Sci.

For other calculators you can check the information that was included, or do a search on the internet.
