solids vibration between fixed points. Liquid rotational movement within fixed volume. Gas free movement throughout space.

Explanation:

Think of a solid like a Roman legion or Greek phalanx Each unit is fixed in position but can move slightly within the formation.

Think of a liquid like a group of Square dancers. They link arms with another unit release and move on to link arms with another partner. The dancers are free to move around, rotating within the space of the dance floor but are not free to leave the dance floor. ( unless one partner on a do se do release with a little too much energy)

Think of a gas like the ping pong balls in the lottery. All the balls are flying around bumping into each other in total chaos
