color(red)(2/3 V)

Explanation:

paintpaint

We have to find the potential difference between X and Y

Given to us is the circuit....
In parallel connection, potential to both branches is the same.

Using ohm's law...

color(blue)(V=IR

potential at X
V=IR
some potential would have been dropped because of first 5 Omega resistor,,, if we calculate that drop and subtract it from 2 we get potential at X

Now, since all resistors are of 5Omega, we get nice symmetry..

Each resistor would decrease potential by 2/3 (because there are three 5Omega resistors connected in series in each branch..

So potential at X would be
2-2/3=4/3

and at Y
2-2*2/3=2/3

V_(X-Y)=4/3-2/3=2/3V
