If the world was created billions of years ago, why are we only in the year 2015?

The year 2015 isn't counted from the Big Bang or the creation of the Earth.

Explanation:

The calendar year is 2015 A.D. (Anno Domini), the time we count from is 0 B.C. /A.D. and the time when the Earth was created was relatively recently discovered, so it would really be annoying to change everyone's calendars to a nine-digit year after having so much time with the current system.
