y = -37/12

Explanation:

Given that:

x+2y = -5 -------------(1)

x= 7/6---------------(2)

Substitute value of x from (2) in equation (1):

=> 7/6 +2y = -5

=> 2y = -5 - 7/6 ---------------transposing

=> 2y = -5 xx 6/6 - 7/6

=>2y = -30/6-7/6

=> 2y = -37/6

=> y = -37 /6 xx 1/2 = -37/12 -----------------transposing.

therefore y = -37/12
