Is NO_3^-1 polar or nonpolar?

Jan 9, 2017

$\text{Polarity}$ refers to separation of charge.............

Explanation:

For an ionic species, and moreover an anion, the idea of charge separation is a bit superfluous, because, necessarily, an ionic solid contains charged particles, i.e. ions.

The charge in the $\text{nitrate ion}$ is delocalized around the oxygen centres. Again, I stress that we would not speak of polarity in this instance.
