Is "summit" a verb?

Can you say "He summited the mountain."?

or "The effort to summit Everest..."

Are both/either of those correct? I'm unsure. Thanks!

Good question.

Explanation:

Yes, summit has two parts of speech, noun and verb accordingly it uses.
The climbers failed to reach the summit.--noun

Summited on May, 8.

According to the Webster dictionary, summit verb form is only intransitive no trans. like you wrote.

Thank you.
