  • Skin has superficial epidermis which is stratified epithelium sitting on basement membrane (BM). Below the non-cellular BM there lies dermis.
  • Dermis is rich in blood capillaries and nerve endings (epidermis lacks both, nutrition is supplied to epidermal cells through diffusion).
  • Blood brings in both oxygen and nutrients to skin. Blood circulation in skin also has role in maintaining temperature of body.
