Let's say a cart was rolling down a ramp. If the mass of the cart increases, why would the gravitational potential energy remain the same? This was explained in my Physics class, but I still do not understand.

It does not remain the same.

Explanation:

Gravitational potential energy is expressed by the formula

#E=mgh#

where #m# is mass, #g# is acceleration of gravity, and #h# is height. Mass is one of the three variables that affect gravitational potential energy.
