warm air is lighter than cold air. The thermal excursion (the difference of the temperature between night and day) is bigger in high mountain than in plain because air is more rarefied and generally there is less water vapour. So when during the day the temperature of mountain grows, air rises up and attractis air from valley. The contrary happen during the night because in mountain the temperature decrease faster than in the valley, So during the early morning the breeze comes from mountains and during the day it comes from the valleis
