A group of active galaxies with very high luminosity when all wavelengths of the spectrum are considered, not just visible light.

Explanation:

When viewed with say a visual telescope, they look just like any other spiral galaxy.

But if you extend the detection to cover other wavelengths, the overall brightness of the center is vet high, much like quasars.
