"Natural gas" is commonly understood to refer to methane occurring naturally by biological processes and/or trapped reservoirs.


Elements and compounds that occur as gases "naturally" can also include helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon, radon, oxygen, chlorine carbon dioxide and water vapor.
Any compound with a vapor pressure greater than atmospheric pressure would be present at least in part as a naturally-occurring gas.
