A river is not a living thing but may contain the components parts needed to support life.

A river is made up of abiotic and biotic factors i.e. Non living and living factors. The abiotic factors are water, oxygen, minerals, temperature, water flow , shade, sunlight, depth. The biotic factors are the plants and animals within the river that use these factors in order to survive and also interact with each other. A river is AN ECOSYSTEM.
