What determines the capacitance of a capacitor?

The primary two factors are the area of the plates of the capacitor and the distance between the plates


Other factors include the properties of the material between the plates, known as the dielectric, and whether the capacitor is in a vacuum or air or some other substance.

The capacitor equation is #C = \kappa * \epsilon_0*A/d#

Where C = capacitance

#\kappa# = dielectric constant, based on the material used

#\epsilon_0# = permittivity constant

A = area

d = distance between the plates
