It is another method of displaying data like a stem and leaf diagram, pie chart or bar chart.
You only use 5 pieces of data, the lowest and highest values, the median(`L_2`) value and then the lower quartile(`L_1`) and the upper quartile (`L_3`).
The beauty of a box plot is that it splits the data up into quarters. Between the lowest score and `L_1` is a quarter of the data. Between `L_1` and `L_2` there is a quarter of the data.
Between `L_2` and `L_3` there is a quarter of the data.
Between `L_3` and the highest score there is a quarter of the data.
