The proverbial $64,000 question! Scientists are not sure at this point, but a number of hypothesis are being developed.
Explanation:
Cosmologists are quite confident about what happened in the micro-seconds after the Big Bang occurred, but going back further becomes highly problematic.
One idea is that the Big Bang was just one such event in an unending series of bubble universes that have been coming into existence in an ongoing series of events.
