What important data did Lavoisier obtain from his experiment?

In 1780, Antoine Lavoisier believed that oxygen was the reason for the acidic properties of acids.

He observed that when non-metals dissolved in water, they formed acidic solutions. Thus, he believed that oxygen was an acid former and said that acid was a substance that contained oxygen and was a non-metal.

However, he was unable to describe bases such as NaOH which were not acidic yet contained oxygen and acids such as HCl which was acidic but contained no oxygen
