Galactic winds are streams of high-speed ions.

Explanation:

These winds have often been observed in galaxies, and can travel at speeds between 300 and 3,000 km/s. The winds can either blow the material into the halo of the galaxy or remove the matter from the galaxy all together. The galactic winds get their energy from fast stellar winds and supernova explosions.
