An example of this is, "Amanda sent a postcard from the Bahamas." Sent is your transitive verb, and the postcard is your direct object.


However, the way to identify these can be a little bit more tricky.

The difference between transitive and intransitive verbs is that transitive verbs are the action being done by the subject to the direct object.

It's a lot, I know.

An example of an intransitive verb phrase is this, "The dog is sleeping." There is no direct object, therefore, this is an intransitive verb phrase.
