The cervix.

The base of the uterus is a narrow muscular tube, the cervix, which dilates as much as ten times at the time of delivery to facilitate the passage of the baby from the uterus into the vaginal canal.

The cervix connects the base of the uterus with the vagina at a region called the external os, a circular opening surrounded by cervical tissue. The internal os is a narrow opening that connects the cervical canal with the uterine cavity.
