Sep 4, 2017

plz refer explanation

#### Explanation:

the approximate value of pi (π) is 3.14159265359 or $\frac{22}{7}$.

Although it is generally used as $\frac{22}{7}$ or $3.14$ or $3.1416$,

the most accurate fraction equivalent to $\pi$ is $\frac{355}{113}$.

#### Explanation:

The Chinese mathematician Zu Chongzhi (AD 420-500) calculated approximations to $\pi$ using counting rods. He was able to calculate that:

$3.1415926 < \pi < 3.1415927$

He identified two rational approximations to $\pi$, namely:

$\frac{22}{7} = 3. \overline{142857}$

$\frac{355}{113} \approx 3.1415929$

Nowadays we tend to use the following approximations:

• $3$ for a quick rough and ready estimation.

• $3.14$ or $\frac{22}{7}$ for calculations for simple practical use.

• $3.1415926536$ or whatever accuracy your calculator gives you.

I occasionally find it useful to use $\pi \approx \sqrt{10} \approx 3.162$.
