# What is the balanced reaction between NO2 and Lime water?

Aug 28, 2016

$N {O}_{2}$ is called mixed anhydride.as it forms two acids $H N {O}_{3} \mathmr{and} H N {O}_{2}$ when treated with water.

$2 N {O}_{2} + {H}_{2} O \to H N {O}_{3} + H N {O}_{2}$

So when treated with a base $C a {\left(O H\right)}_{2}$, this will form two types of Ca-salt of $H N {O}_{3} \mathmr{and} H N {O}_{2}$ acid produced.

The balanced equation will be

$2 C a {\left(O H\right)}_{2} + 4 N {O}_{2} \to C a {\left(N {O}_{3}\right)}_{2} + C a {\left(N {O}_{2}\right)}_{2} + 2 {H}_{2} O$
