# What is the common point of x+2y=6 and x+y=2?

Mar 24, 2015

The answer is: $\left(- 2 , 4\right)$.

We can substact the second equation from the first:

$x + 2 y = 6$
$x + y = 2$

$\Rightarrow x - x + 2 y - y = 6 - 2 \Rightarrow y = 4$ and from the second equation in which $y = 4$

$\Rightarrow x + 4 = 2 \Rightarrow x = - 2$.
