Yes, there is a difference between a nervous breakdown from stress and psychotic breakdown.

Explanation:

Both are similar like having sudden onsets like a dam break. However, a nervous breakdown is a response to poor stress coping mechanisms. It can involve irrational behavior, depression, anxiety, fearfulness, hypersensitives, and expressions of extreme grief.
The psychotic break is more often a response to a sudden increase in psychotic symptoms like auditory hallucinations and other things that are not real outside of the patient. Psychotic breaks involve bizarre and self-injurious behavior, decreased responsiveness to external stimuli and sometimes excitement and agitation.
