What is the difference between astrophysics and astronomy?

Particularly in terms of college degrees and job opportunities/salaries post graduation.

astronomy focuses on observation while astrophysics applies principles of physics to the the entire cosmos. Both focus on the cosmos (universe). think about this way: one is observational science with minimal mathematics, the other deployed a heavy dose of mathematical physics...

astrophysics is more to do with physics

while astronomy is the study of the vast universe around us... astrophysics is applying the laws of physics into the study of the universe
