Reaction of halogens with alkenes.

Explanation:

Bromine is used to test for unsaturation in alkenes. The reaction is electrophilic addition. Bromine adds across the carbon to carbon double bond. As the bromine molecule approaches the area of unsaturation in the alkene the covalent molecule becomes polarised and can acts as an electrophile. The result is the formation of the dibromoalkane.
