# What is the life cycle of a black hole?

Apr 11, 2018

Black holes... They just don't ever die. But most probably their life till the end of this Universe.

#### Explanation:

No perfect theory proved till today is there which could tell the life cycle of a black hole.. As stated above, they are somehow IMMORTALS and INVINCIBLE.

This is how the black holes are formed:-

They are formed of a specific kind of star after it has burned up all its Hydrogen and Helium.

The density of the star starts to become more and more which is nearly infinite accompanied by a very strong gravitational force.

And further it remains in its place performing its favorite hobby i.e. gobbling up anything that comes near it...

A black hole is formed from the collapse of a massive star and continues indefinitely.

#### Explanation:

A black hole is formed when the core of a massive star collapses after fusion reactions have stopped. If the mass of the core $M$ collapses to less than its Schwarzschild radius ${r}_{s}$, then it becomes a black hole.

${r}_{s} = \frac{2 G M}{c} ^ 2$

Where $G$ is the gravitational constant and $c$ is the speed of light.

Popular opinion is that black holes devour everything which comes near to them. This is completely wrong. It takes a very long time for anything to fall into a black hole. The reason for this is that space time is so curved that time is stopped at the event horizon.

Space is not empty. Pairs of particles and antiparticles come into existence and annihilate each other all the time. If one of a pair falls into a black hole and the other escapes, then the black hole loses mass. This is called Hawking radiation which in principle can cause a black hole to evaporate.

In any case once a black hole is formed it will last a very long time.
