# What is the percent error if the accepted value is 80g and the measured is 82g?

Feb 8, 2016

The percent error is basically the fractional deviation from the accepted value.

The percent error is the absolute difference between the measured/approximate and accepted/exact values, relative to the exact value:

\mathbf(% "Error" = |"Approximate" - "Exact"|/("Exact")xx100%)

= |82 - 80|/(80)xx100%

= color(blue)(2.5%)

So the percent error is 2.5%.
