Black bread mold ( common name ) is widely distributed thread like mucoralean mold. It takes food and nutrients from the bread and causes damage to the surface where it lives.

It has a cosmopolitan distribution. It is capable of causing opportunistic infection of humans , known as zygomycosis. It also causes Rhizopus soft rot of sweet potatoes.
